The drainage and sewer pipes in Westridge are the original cast-iron pipes from the 1940’s. The surface asphalt was repaved in the 1980’s. In 2010, as part of then Mayor Anise Parker’s Rebuild Houston, Westridge was on a list of “worst first” neighborhoods in need of immediate updating. The surrounding neighborhoods were updated in 2013, but Westridge, which was in the last phase, was never completed.

A quarter of the residents in our diverse neighborhood are seniors, and many have fallen and been permanently injured. With the help of Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum, the City of Houston has promised (again) to upgrade our streets, but only in 2028-2030, but only if there is funding. We would like them to do it sooner.
A new Capital Improvement Project (CIP No. M-410016-001) was approved and funded in 2016, but in 2023 it was descoped and the funds were redirected to a single trunk line NOT in Westridge. Street lighting is limited, sidewalks are dilapidated or non-existent. Water pools for weeks after rain. Because of the open CIP, street repairs have been neglected.
